1. Commencing on October 30, 2026, BMW will broaden the scope of its recall to include certain imported 2, 4, 5, 6, X4, X5, X6, and Z4 models produced from February 22, 2021, to April 29, 2025, amounting to a total of 93,071 units. This recall is necessitated by abnormal wear in the starter motor, which poses a fire hazard. BMW will provide free replacements of the starter motors with upgraded versions for the affected vehicles.
2. Also beginning on October 30, 2026, BMW will extend the recall to cover certain domestically-produced 5 Series vehicles manufactured between December 11, 2017, and August 28, 2020, totaling 57,423 units. Additionally, certain imported 7 Series vehicles produced from June 29, 2016, to January 18, 2018, totaling 364 units, will also be included. The recall is prompted by inadequate waterproofing of the starter relay, which could lead to a fire risk. BMW will replace the starter motors of these vehicles with enhanced versions free of charge.
3. With immediate effect, BMW will conduct another recall for certain domestically-produced X1, X5, and 5 Series vehicles manufactured between May 15, 2023, and April 30, 2024, totaling 157 units. Furthermore, certain imported X2, X6, X7, 5 Series, 7 Series, and MINI JCW Countryman vehicles produced from July 6, 2022, to June 25, 2024, totaling 61 units, will also be recalled. This recall is due to insufficient software upgrades during previous recall efforts, resulting in the inability to adequately warn of potential DSCi (Dynamic Stability Control system interference) risks. BMW will reinstall the on-board diagnostic software for these vehicles free of charge to rectify the issue.
