Volvo Cars has recently declared the closure of its Stockholm office, with plans to consolidate its business operations into its main headquarters in Gothenburg. The Stockholm office currently employs around 450 individuals, and this strategic move forms part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing costs and boosting operational efficiency. Earlier, Volvo had already launched a comprehensive cost-saving and cash flow optimization strategy, targeting a total of SEK 18 billion in savings, which included global workforce reductions of approximately 3,000 employees. Despite experiencing a year-on-year decline in revenue during the second quarter and the first half of 2026, Volvo successfully achieved its annual goal of cutting SEK 5 billion in indirect costs, doing so six months ahead of the projected timeline. Additionally, in the first half of the year, the company witnessed a 13% year-on-year increase in sales of fully electric vehicles, with its market share climbing to 24%. Volvo, headquartered in Gothenburg, boasted a global workforce of approximately 42,600 full-time employees by the end of 2024. Currently, Geely Sweden Holding possesses around 78.65% of Volvo's shares. Since Geely's acquisition of Volvo in 2010, the company has not only returned to profitability in 2014 but has also maintained a profitable status for several consecutive years.
