According to Nikkei Asia, Toyota Motor plans to take the lead in producing its next-generation electric SUV in China in autumn 2027, which will be sold under the Lexus brand and manufactured at a new plant in Shanghai. The initial monthly production capacity will be around 1,000 units, with plans to expand to tens of thousands of units annually by 2028. Additionally, Toyota plans to introduce autonomous driving technology to passenger vehicles by 2028 and develop its in-house L2++ system, which requires minimal driver intervention and is expected to see wider adoption by 2030.
