On August 27, XPENG Motors revealed that its Robotaxi, outfitted with the second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) large-scale model, has officially embarked on fully unmanned road trials. Additionally, it has secured the remote testing qualification for intelligent connected vehicles in Guangzhou, enabling it to carry out tests on specified city roads. Since initiating internal employee trials in June of this year, the Robotaxi has successfully verified over 2,000 complete test processes within a span of two months. The second-generation VLA large-scale model is a multimodal AI model tailored for the physical world. By leveraging collaborative optimization across the 'chip-compiler-model' spectrum, it facilitates deployment on vehicle terminals, thereby enhancing perception and decision-making abilities in intricate environments. This model is also applicable to embodied AI scenarios, such as autonomous driving. XPENG Motors has been proactively advancing the development of its Robotaxi business ecosystem and intends to promote unmanned passenger services. This fully unmanned road trial signifies XPENG's foray into a broader road verification phase for its large-scale model-based autonomous driving technology, further propelling the application and exploration of physical AI within the transportation industry.
