Recently, a matte orange-painted Mercedes-AMG GT 63 test car equipped with an autonomous driving system completed two hands-off autonomous driving laps at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Prior to the test, the vehicle conducted precise low-speed mapping along both sides of the track to collect positional data. During the laps, the pace remained relatively conservative. While the lap times improved, there is still a significant gap compared to the world's first officially certified autonomous driving lap record set by Xiaomi YU7 GT in June this year at the Nürburgring. Mercedes has been exploring autonomous driving technologies for high-performance vehicles since 2022. Following this test, the team will analyze the data, with hopes of returning to the Nürburgring in the future to challenge the record.
