Blume and Volkswagen brand head Thomas Schäfer will announce the restructuring plan at the main plant in Wolfsburg, a plan that could result in the loss of up to 100,000 jobs. Tensions have already risen between the two sides ahead of the meeting. Christiane Benner, president of the German Metalworkers' Union, criticized Blume's goal of cutting costs and raising the profit margin to 9% as an 'unrealistic fantasy.' Local union officials warned on Monday that if Blume does not withdraw the plan, the union will consider striking. However, Blume sees this reform as the most important challenge of his tenure, aiming to reduce costs and adapt Volkswagen to industry changes brought about by electric vehicles, software technology, and competitors.
