On August 18, the management and labor representatives of Hyundai Motor engaged in their 16th round of negotiations at the company's Ulsan plant in South Korea. This meeting marked their first consultation in 41 days. Unfortunately, the talks concluded without reaching an agreement. The main points of contention revolved around three key issues: enhancing bonus payments, reinstating employees who were dismissed for engaging in unlawful activities, and raising the retirement age.

Following the breakdown in negotiations, the union unveiled its new strike strategy. They plan to conduct 4-hour partial strikes daily from the 19th to the 20th and again from the 24th to the 25th. This will be followed by an 8-hour full-scale strike on the 21st. This upcoming strike will signify the union's first comprehensive industrial action in a decade, since the strike in 2016.
