On July 30th, according to a notice posted on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the compulsory national standard titled "Safety Requirements for Autonomous Driving Systems of Intelligent Connected Vehicles" (GB 44721—2026), which has been developed and overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, has received approval for release from the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China. This standard is set to take effect on July 1, 2027. It specifically targets M- and N-category vehicles that are outfitted with Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving systems, with automatic parking systems being excluded from its purview. Drawing on the real needs of China's industrial growth and regulatory framework, and considering factors such as technical feasibility, industrial adaptability, and practical application, the standard establishes a comprehensive, unambiguous, and tailored safety requirements system that aligns with China's unique national conditions.
