On August 4, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Johari, stated that the country is considering taxing electric vehicle sales to raise funds for expanding the public charging network. Previously, to stimulate growth in the electric vehicle market and attract investment, the Malaysian government implemented a four-year exemption policy on import duties and sales taxes for fully imported electric vehicles. However, this move resulted in a loss of 3.3 billion ringgit (approximately US$806 million) in national tax revenue.
