Japanese media outlets have reported that on the afternoon of July 31st, an Isuzu Erga EV pure electric bus was engulfed in flames on a roadway adjacent to Nankoguchibuto Station, situated in the Nanko area of Suminoe-ku, Osaka City. The fire raged intensely at the front section of the bus's roof, accompanied by voluminous plumes of smoke. This incident marks Japan's inaugural occurrence of an electric bus fire. The bus in question was employed for ferrying employees of a company under the Osaka Gas Group umbrella. Upon the driver's detection of an anomaly, the bus was promptly halted, only to be immediately followed by the eruption of smoke and flames on the roof. The driver was the sole occupant of the bus at the time, and fortunately, no casualties were reported. The underlying cause of the fire is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation.
