On July 23, the Hong Kong Transport Department announced the issuance of Hong Kong’s first autonomous driving test license to Luobo Kuaipao, a subsidiary of Baidu. This landmark approval allows Luobo Kuaipao to conduct fully autonomous driving tests on Hong Kong Airport Island without in-car safety officers, with operations officially commencing on the 27th of the month. Notably, this marks the first instance of such testing within a "right-hand-drive, left-hand-traffic" system anywhere in the world, underscoring China’s pioneering role in advancing autonomous vehicle technology for right-hand-drive markets.
