On July 22, at the 2026 China Auto Forum, Fu Bingfeng, the Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), highlighted that the current global automotive industry is experiencing profound transformations, amidst an increasingly intricate development landscape. The automotive sector is not only contending with external disruptions, such as low-carbon regulations and geopolitical tensions but also grappling with internal challenges, including intensified domestic competition, the imperative to breakthrough key core technologies, and the necessity for structural adjustments in production capacity. These emerging issues and hurdles during the transitional phase have become pressing concerns for the automotive industry to address.
In the first half of this year, more than 500 new vehicle models were introduced to the market. Most automakers have adopted a 'comprehensive' strategy, resulting in significant vehicle homogenization and overly ambitious strategic objectives, which have sparked widespread operational anxieties across the industry. Fu Bingfeng urged companies to uphold their ethical standards in competition, return to a rational approach, explore differentiated market segments, clarify their market positioning, abandon short-term opportunistic behaviors, and foster a long-term development mindset.
