The China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance recently convened its 2026 Annual Forum. Ma Xiaoli, Deputy Director of the National Power Battery Innovation Center, noted that with the deceleration in the growth rate of new energy vehicles, the domestic power battery sector has shifted from a phase of 'rapid expansion' to one characterized by 'stable growth and structural optimization,' with growth rates moderating compared to those observed in 2025. Projections indicate that the annual installation demand for power batteries within China will reach 888.7 GWh in 2026, marking a 15.8% year-on-year increase. Specifically, the installation demand for power batteries in new energy passenger vehicles is expected to be 672.7 GWh, reflecting a 10.8% year-on-year rise; meanwhile, the demand for new energy commercial vehicles is anticipated to be 216.1 GWh, surging by 34.7% year-on-year.
