On June 30, Wired magazine disclosed that records from the sheriff's office revealed a series of thefts at Tesla's Nevada factory. Since December of the previous year, at least 11 trailers, laden with Tesla vehicles and home batteries worth millions of dollars, have been pilfered from the factory's loading and unloading zone. In January, three individuals were apprehended for their involvement in one of these theft incidents; however, a more extensive investigation into the thefts is still underway. This year, investigators have linked a total of 17 cargo theft cases in Storey County to Tesla and other companies. The theft rings took advantage of security loopholes at Tesla, employing tactics such as forged identification documents and exploiting lax oversight in transportation partnerships to execute their illicit activities. In response, Tesla has bolstered its factory security measures, including implementing stringent driver identity verification at the factory gates.
