Based on a report from Bild am Sonntag that cited sources familiar with the matter, German automotive giant Volkswagen is set to conclude its partnership with automotive supplier Bosch in the realm of autonomous driving. This move is part of Volkswagen's larger strategy to reduce expenses and boost its competitive edge. In response, Bosch and Cariad released a joint statement, indicating that they would refrain from commenting on speculative market rumors.
The report further alleged that the project fell short of expectations despite an investment of roughly 1.5 billion euros (equivalent to US$1.71 billion). Internal assessments indicated that the technology developed thus far lacked the necessary competitiveness. Consequently, Volkswagen will terminate its collaboration with Bosch in accordance with the terms outlined in their contract. The automaker plans to source hardware and software for its autonomous driving systems from new partners instead. Currently, Volkswagen is actively exploring alternative options and anticipates finalizing contracts with these new partners before September.
