In May 2026, the Model Y—produced by Tesla in China—claimed the title of the best-selling imported vehicle model in Japan, based on new car registration figures. The Model 3 and Model Y, both manufactured at Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, boast a localization rate exceeding 95% for their components. This high localization rate enables Tesla to establish a competitive pricing strategy for these models in the Chinese market. Currently, Tesla has cultivated partnerships with over 400 local supply chain partners across China. In June of the same year, Tesla not only led the sales of imported vehicles in South Korea but also celebrated welcoming its 10,000th owner in Singapore. Additionally, the company delivered the locally produced Model Y L, manufactured at the Shanghai Gigafactory, to the Singaporean market. Furthermore, Tesla has expanded its retail presence by opening new stores in Bangalore, India; Tokyo, Japan; Bangkok, Thailand; and several other strategic locations.
