The "15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Automotive Industry in Changchun City (Draft for Public Comments)" is currently available for public review and feedback. The plan highlights that China's automotive market has entered a phase of inventory-based competition, with the industry's profit margin expected to decline to 4.1% by 2025, falling below the industrial average. Amidst this intensifying "involution" (a term referring to excessive competition where participants expend increasing effort but see diminishing returns), the survival of the fittest among automakers is accelerating. This trend is particularly evident as national ministries encourage mergers and acquisitions of high-quality enterprises to foster group management and enhance overall competitiveness. Consequently, the "15th Five-Year Plan" period will emerge as a pivotal phase for the maturation of the domestic automotive market and the shaping of the industrial competition landscape. During this time, mergers and acquisitions among high-quality enterprises, coupled with the elimination of weaker firms, are expected to become the prevailing trend. It is anticipated that by 2030, the number of domestic automobile enterprise groups will experience a significant reduction, decreasing from 71 to approximately 15.
