On May 29, 2026, according to new regulations in Texas, Tesla has deployed only 42 autonomous vehicles approved for driverless ride-hailing services in the state, far fewer than Waymo's 577 vehicles. Tesla has self-certified its Robotaxi as Level 4 autonomous driving in compliance with the new regulations. Waymo's fleet already covers four cities, including Dallas and Houston, while Tesla's Robotaxi service launched in Austin in June 2023 and recently expanded to Dallas and Houston.
