On May 3, Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, highlighted in an article that from January to March 2026, global automotive sales hit 22.4 million units. Among these, new energy vehicle (NEV) sales accounted for 4.53 million units, representing 20.2% of the total. A detailed breakdown reveals that pure electric vehicles (EVs) made up 13.8% of the market, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) 6.4%, and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) 7.2%.

China's market share in the global pure electric vehicle sector remained relatively stable, hovering around 63% from 2023 to 2025. However, it dipped to 56% in 2026, reflecting a somewhat sluggish performance at the beginning of that year. In contrast, China's dominance in the global plug-in hybrid vehicle market is far more pronounced, reaching a peak of 76.4% in 2025. Despite a slight decline in 2026, China maintained a high market share of 73%, underscoring its exceptional performance in this segment.
