Data released by the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Conference (which operates under the auspices of the China Automobile Dealers Association) reveals that retail sales of narrowly-defined passenger cars in China reached 1.648 million units in March 2026. This figure represents a 15% year-on-year (YoY) decrease, though it does reflect a notable 59.4% month-on-month (MoM) surge. Cumulative sales for the first quarter of the year totaled 4.222 million units, down 17.5% YoY. In terms of exports, passenger car shipments reached 695,000 units in March, soaring by 74.3% YoY. Notably, exports of new energy passenger vehicles skyrocketed by 139.9% YoY, reaching 349,000 units.
