Xiaomi Auto has recently been the subject of frequent rumors regarding new hires, amidst facing certain sales pressures. It is reported that Kong Yanshuang, former General Manager of Tesla China, and Song Gang, former Vice President of Manufacturing at Tesla’s Shanghai factory, are set to join Xiaomi Auto. If these rumors hold true, Xiaomi Auto’s sales and production systems are likely to receive a significant boost. In 2025, Xiaomi Auto delivered 411,000 new vehicles, marking a substantial increase in revenue. Lei Jun, the company’s leader, set an ambitious target of delivering 550,000 vehicles for the entire year of 2026. However, the delivery volume in the first quarter only slightly exceeded 79,000 vehicles, with a not significant growth rate. Consequently, an average of 52,000 vehicles need to be delivered each month to meet the target, whereas the delivery volume in December of the previous year just surpassed 50,000 vehicles in a single month.
The new generation of the Xiaomi SU7 commenced deliveries on March 23, with over 20,000 vehicles delivered in March alone and over 40,000 orders already locked in. Nevertheless, compared to the launch of the first-generation SU7, the growth is not particularly remarkable. Xiaomi Auto’s retail system takes inspiration from Tesla’s model, with its previous channel model being “1+N.” Currently, its frontline sales capabilities have shown improvement. In terms of production capacity, the Beijing factory boasts a total capacity of 450,000 vehicles, while the Wuhan factory is slated to commence production in May, with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The initial core team of Xiaomi Auto comprises key internal personnel and executives from traditional automakers. Should Tesla veterans be successfully recruited in the future, whether Xiaomi Auto can achieve its sales targets will undoubtedly become a focal point of attention.
