Stellantis is currently immersed in thorough negotiations with Leapmotor, aiming to collaboratively develop an electric SUV tailored for the Opel brand. This upcoming model is set to leverage Leapmotor's cutting-edge technology and will be manufactured at the Zaragoza, Spain, plant. Should an agreement materialize, it would significantly aid Stellantis in slashing both development costs and timeframes. In 2023, Stellantis made a strategic move by acquiring roughly one-fifth of Leapmotor's shares, forging a partnership in the process. This alliance led to the creation of Leapmotor International, a venture dedicated to managing overseas operations. The envisioned new model will share its architectural blueprint with the Leapmotor B10 and is slated to commence production in 2028, with an ambitious annual output target of 50,000 units. The negotiation process kicked off at the close of 2025, and there's a possibility that an agreement could be finalized as soon as this month. Stellantis has confirmed that both parties are engaged in 'regular communication.' On the other hand, Leapmotor has clarified that their discussions are currently centered around component supply, with no immediate plans for platform collaboration. They have also refrained from responding to requests for comments on related specifics.
