OpenAI has rolled out an update for ChatGPT, introducing support for Apple CarPlay. Now, CarPlay users have the convenience of directly posing questions or issuing commands to ChatGPT via the car's central control screen. Earlier, Apple paved the way for third-party voice conversation apps to integrate with CarPlay in the iOS 26.4 system. However, these apps were required to undergo adaptation and obtain certification. Voice interaction stands as the primary mode of engagement for CarPlay, and integrated apps are prohibited from presenting text or image content. Instead, they must adhere to a standardized voice control template, with the interface solely displaying the voice control panel and a maximum of four functional operation buttons.
Users eager to utilize ChatGPT on CarPlay must ensure their iPhones are updated to iOS 26.4 or a subsequent version. Apple has carefully curated the types of apps accessible on CarPlay to mitigate the risk of driver distraction. Upon integration with CarPlay, users can engage with ChatGPT hands-free. Nevertheless, it's important to note that ChatGPT cannot manipulate vehicle or iPhone functions, nor does it possess a dedicated wake word; users are required to manually open the app.
