Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, recently stated that range-extender technology is 'meaningless' in Europe. Previously, on March 16, SAIC Volkswagen held a technology launch event and introduced its first range-extender SUV, the ID.ERA 9X, which will start pre-sales on March 30. The vehicle offers a pure electric driving range of up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) and is equipped with an onboard engine as a range extender, increasing the total driving range by an additional 435 miles.
