On March 24, Reuters reported that Suren Mousavi, a 28-year-old Baltimore resident, hopes to purchase an affordable electric vehicle. Motivated by environmental considerations and a preference for a smooth driving experience, he has set his sights on electric vehicle models from three Chinese brands: BYD, Geely, and Zeekr. However, these models are virtually unavailable in the U.S. market. Mousavi is not alone. As the average price of new cars in the United States nears $50,000, a growing number of American consumers are beginning to consider more affordable Chinese electric vehicles. Nevertheless, the U.S. government, citing concerns over data security and job protection, has effectively banned the import of Chinese cars by imposing hefty tariffs. Despite this, a survey by Cox Automotive revealed that 49% of American consumers believe Chinese cars offer excellent value for money, and 40% support the entry of Chinese car brands into the U.S. market.
