Recently, five prominent automotive industry groups, such as the Alliance for Automotive Innovation and the Auto Innovation Alliance in the United States, collectively penned a letter to the Trump administration. In this letter, they insisted on upholding the import restrictions on Chinese-made cars. They argued that allowing Chinese vehicles into the U.S. market would pose a risk to their international competitiveness, jeopardize national security, and undermine the very bedrock of the automotive sector. The U.S. had previously enacted an import prohibition and levied hefty tariffs on Chinese cars; however, concerns persisted that Chinese vehicles might still find their way into the U.S. via routes like Canada.
