On March 21, Japanese media reported that the global new vehicle sales landscape witnessed a significant shift in 2025. Chinese automakers achieved a total sales volume of nearly 27 million vehicles, surpassing their Japanese counterparts for the first time and claiming the top spot in the global auto market. This marks the end of a 25-year reign for Japanese automakers, who had held the leading position since 2000. Among the top 20 automakers in global sales, China boasted six representatives, outpacing Japan's five. Notably, BYD emerged as a global leader in the pure electric vehicle sector, selling 4.6 million vehicles and overtaking both Ford and Tesla. Meanwhile, Geely sold 4.11 million vehicles, surpassing Honda in the process.
