On the afternoon of March 19, Li Bin, the founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the (2026) Semiconductor Industry Summit Forum held in Shanghai. During his address, he highlighted three significant challenges facing the automotive semiconductor sector: a sharp rise in demand for AI-driven computational power, the growing fragmentation of chip architectures, and persistent volatility in supply chains. To address these challenges, Li explained that NIO is enhancing its core intelligent capabilities by developing and customizing its own chips, thereby improving the performance and cost-efficiency of high-value semiconductor components. To date, NIO’s cumulative mass production volume of self-developed chips has exceeded 550,000 units.
