Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, has announced that Xiaomi’s ultra-high-strength steel, boasting a strength of 2200MPa, has been honored with the ‘First Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements’ by the China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association. This accolade represents the pinnacle of recognition in the realm of collaborative innovation between industry, academia, and research institutions. This advanced material, developed collaboratively by Xiaomi Auto, a team led by academician Wang Guodong from Northeastern University, and Yucaitang, stands as the strongest steel currently employed in mass-produced vehicles. The ‘built-in roll cage’ and four-door anti-collision beams of Xiaomi’s new-generation SU7 model both incorporate this cutting-edge material. In comparison to 1500MPa hot-formed steel, its tensile and yield strengths have seen a substantial enhancement. When integrated into the Xiaomi YU7 model, the anti-collision beams and A/B pillars exhibit improved load-bearing capacity, thereby significantly bolstering vehicle safety under extreme conditions.
