On March 13th, Academician Ouyang Minggao from the Chinese Academy of Sciences highlighted that, beginning in 2026, the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry will embark on a new cycle of innovation-driven, high-quality development. Over the next five years, the industry will concentrate on seven pivotal technological domains: end-to-end safety, all-weather ultra-rapid charging (inclusive of battery swapping), fully autonomous driving, full-by-wire chassis systems, all-solid-state batteries, high efficiency across diverse operating conditions (encompassing high-speed and low-temperature scenarios), and fully integrated electric vehicles. Notably, the concept of "fully integrated electric vehicles" extends to cover aspects such as power generation, energy storage, and the seamless integration of vehicles with energy systems.
Academician Ouyang Minggao further explained that, in accordance with the innovation diffusion theory, when the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles surpasses 50%, it indicates a shift from the early majority phase to the late majority phase of market adoption. During this transition, the rate of market share growth will decelerate, whereas the rate of increase in the total number of NEVs in circulation will pick up pace.
