Honda has revealed that, in light of recent shifts in the business landscape, the company is reassessing its automotive electrification strategy. As a result, it is canceling the research, development, and planned launch of three all-electric vehicle models that were slated for production in North America. The company's competitiveness in the Asian market has waned, and its automotive business profitability has taken a hit, influenced by alterations in U.S. tariff policies and substantial investments in all-electric vehicle development.

The cancellation of these models is anticipated to lead to a cascade of losses. The consolidated financial results for the current fiscal year are now projected to reflect an operating loss ranging from 820 billion yen to 1.12 trillion yen. In response, Honda is forging ahead with strategic restructuring, recalibrating resource allocation, and bolstering its hybrid model lineup. Future all-electric vehicle launches will be carefully calibrated to strike a balance between profitability and prevailing market trends.

In a show of solidarity and cost-cutting measures, some executive directors have voluntarily opted to return a portion of their monthly salaries. Meanwhile, the president and vice president have foregone their short-term performance bonuses for the current fiscal year, and the annual compensation of representative executive directors has been slashed by 25% to 30%. Honda is set to unveil the specifics of its medium- to long-term strategic restructuring plan for the automotive business in May.
