The trio plans to initiate a pilot program in Tokyo, Japan, by the close of 2026. This initiative will feature Nissan Leaf vehicles outfitted with Wayve's cutting-edge AI driving technology, enabling passengers to hail rides via the Uber platform. Notably, this endeavor represents Uber's inaugural foray into autonomous vehicle services in Japan and stands as a pivotal element in Wayve and Uber's broader strategy to roll out autonomous taxi services across more than ten cities globally.
