On February 27, 2026, BMW Group announced the launch of a pilot project for humanoid robots at its Leipzig plant in Germany, marking the first introduction of embodied artificial intelligence technology in Europe. The project aims to integrate humanoid robots into the automotive mass production process, exploring applications in battery and component manufacturing. The collaboration partner is Sweden's Hexagon, utilizing AEON robots for high-voltage battery assembly and component manufacturing. The project has completed laboratory testing and is planned to enter large-scale pilot operation in summer.
