With the release of iOS 26.4 Beta 1, Apple has updated the CarPlay developer guidelines, introducing a fresh category for "voice-based conversational applications." Media sources are of the opinion that this move offers an official, independent route for third-party AI agents to make their way into in-car systems. Apple has made it clear that the AI agents within CarPlay are "task-driven services," crafted to address issues in an efficient manner. When it comes to safety, driving security is safeguarded by restricting the depth of the user interface (UI) and requiring the use of official templates. Even though Apple has opened up access to third parties, Siri still holds its place as the system-level core of CarPlay. The newly approved category merely acts as a supplementary option for AI assistants in specific areas.
