As per reports, the European Commission is set to unveil a fresh set of regulations stipulating that electric vehicles must incorporate at least 70% of components sourced from within the EU to be eligible for government subsidies. This proposed measure will be incorporated into relevant policies, with the overarching goal of safeguarding the EU's domestic manufacturing sector and countering the competitive pressure exerted by the influx of low-priced electric vehicles from China. The newly established rules specify that electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles seeking subsidies must undergo assembly within the EU's borders. Moreover, a minimum of 70% of their components (batteries excluded) must be produced within the EU. Furthermore, the production of core battery components is also required to take place locally within the EU.
