On February 5, Changan Automobile and CATL co-hosted a press conference in Yakeshi, where Changan Automobile officially unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy and introduced the world’s first mass-produced sodium-ion battery-powered passenger car. Several of Changan’s brands, including Avatr, Shenlan, Qiyuan, and Gravity, are set to incorporate CATL’s latest sodium-ion batteries in upcoming models. The newly launched mass-produced passenger car has successfully completed winter testing, with its driving range, low-temperature performance, and safety features all satisfying consumer expectations. Equipped with CATL’s sodium-ion battery and third-generation CTP (Cell-to-Pack) technology, the vehicle offers a pure electric driving range exceeding 400 kilometers and achieves a cell energy density of 175Wh/kg. As the sodium-ion battery supply chain matures, this range is projected to increase to 500-600 kilometers. The battery also excels in extreme cold conditions, maintaining superior performance. Furthermore, CATL plans to deploy over 3,000 chocolate-style battery swap stations nationwide by 2026.
