Alexander Baldy, who is in charge of BYD's Brazilian operations, disclosed that BYD is stepping up its localization initiatives in Brazil. The company has outlined a plan to attain local production or sourcing of half of the components for the vehicle models manufactured at its Brazilian factory by the end of 2026. Moreover, it has set a comprehensive localization goal to be achieved by January 1, 2027. BYD has laid out a long-term ambition to claim the top spot as Brazil's best-selling automaker by 2030.
Since kicking off production in October of the previous year, the factory has churned out roughly 25,000 pure electric and hybrid vehicles tailored for the Brazilian market. This achievement has propelled Brazil to become BYD's largest individual market outside of China. Elevating the localization ratio will not only assist in complying with regulatory mandates but also equip BYD with the capability to start exporting vehicles to Mercosur countries as soon as this year.
At present, the construction of local stamping, welding, and painting workshops is on the verge of completion. By the end of 2026, the annual production capacity is projected to surge from 150,000 to 300,000 units. A notable milestone was reached in October 2025 when BYD's 14 millionth new energy vehicle rolled off the production line at its Brazilian factory, and Brazilian President Lula took ownership of this historic vehicle.
