At the Tianshu Intelligent New Safety Achievements Release and Global Sodium Battery Strategy Launch Event, Changan Automobile made a significant announcement: it will team up with CATL to introduce sodium-ion batteries and launch passenger cars powered by these batteries across several of its brands. The Chief Technology Officer of CATL highlighted that their sodium-ion battery cells boast an impressive energy density of up to 175Wh/kg. This breakthrough allows pure electric vehicles to travel over 400 kilometers on a single charge, with the potential for further enhancements in the future. Extended-range hybrid models can also achieve ranges between 300 and 400 kilometers. This year, CATL has ambitious plans to set up 3,000 battery swap stations in more than 140 cities. Moreover, in collaboration with Changan Automobile, they aim to swiftly introduce multiple vehicle models powered by sodium-ion batteries by 2026. Additionally, CATL intends to widely apply sodium-ion batteries across various industries by 2026. In April, they will unveil the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery brand, CATL Sodium New. This brand will encompass two distinct product categories, facilitating applications across the full temperature spectrum.
