On February 2, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology unveiled a compulsory national standard titled "Safety Technical Specifications for Car Door Handles." This standard mandates that, commencing January 1, 2027, all vehicles sold within China must be outfitted with mechanical release mechanisms on both the inside and outside of their doors. The new rule encompasses M1-class passenger vehicles, N1-class commercial vehicles, and multi-purpose trucks, with the primary objective of bolstering vehicle safety standards. Vehicles that have already secured regulatory clearance and are nearing their market introduction in China may be eligible for an extension until January 1, 2029, to facilitate necessary design alterations.
