According to sources familiar with the matter, Porsche is considering shelving an electric sports car production line due to soaring costs from over-investment in the electric vehicle sector. New CEO Michael Leiters may cancel the planned all-electric versions of the 718 series Boxster and Cayman models, primarily due to delayed research and development progress and escalating costs. This move is part of a broader adjustment following setbacks in Porsche's electrification strategy, with the company now shifting its focus toward gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles. Previously, Porsche had discontinued the gasoline-powered 718 models, with plans to introduce the all-electric versions in 2026.
