On January 28, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved and released the mandatory national standard "Safety Technical Requirements for Automobile Door Handles" (GB 48001 - 2026), which it had organized the formulation of. This standard is set to come into effect on January 1, 2027.
According to this standard, each door (with the exception of the rear door) must be fitted with both an exterior door handle and an interior handle that can be mechanically disengaged. In the aftermath of events such as the activation of irreversible restraint systems or a thermal runaway incident in the power battery, the door should still be capable of being opened by mechanically releasing the exterior door handle. Moreover, the independent operation of any interior door handle should result in the corresponding door being able to be opened.
