A preheat (warm-up) video for the 2026 Winter Olympics has captured a historic moment: the world's first autonomous walk by a humanoid robot in extreme cold conditions. According to Unitree Robotics, the robot that undertook this remarkable challenge was the Unitree G1. Leveraging Beidou satellite navigation and incorporating intelligent planning capabilities, the Unitree G1 traversed more than 130,000 steps across a snowy plain, enduring temperatures as low as -47.4°C. Along the way, it left intricate patterns on the snowy surface of the Winter Olympics venue. The Unitree G1 made its debut in May 2024. Standing approximately 127cm tall and weighing around 35kg, this advanced robot is outfitted with 23 to 43 joint motors. It is capable of performing operations driven by both imitation and reinforcement learning.
