On January 28th, Beijing time, Bloomberg reported, citing sources with insider knowledge, that BYD is contemplating an expansion of its operations in India. The company aims to keep pace with the soaring demand for its electric vehicles in the Indian market by setting up local assembly facilities.
Given India's import quota constraints, BYD is currently assessing the feasibility of local assembly in India. Additionally, the company is working on obtaining local safety and regulatory certifications for a wider range of its vehicle models. In the past, BYD primarily depended on its assembly plants in India, but it encountered obstacles in gaining geopolitical approvals. Despite these challenges, BYD's sales in India have continued to climb, prompting the company to extend its sales network to encompass small and medium-sized towns.
