The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has declared that it will conduct an investigation into Alphabet's self-driving car enterprise, Waymo. This move comes in the wake of reports indicating that Waymo's driverless taxis have, on multiple occasions, illegally overtaken stopped school buses while students were either boarding or disembarking in no fewer than two states. The core of the inquiry will hone in on over 20 analogous incidents that transpired in Austin, Texas.

The NTSB is set to amass data concerning instances where autonomous vehicles neglected to halt when school buses were in the process of loading or unloading pupils. Anticipation surrounds the release of a preliminary report within the next 30 days, while a comprehensive final report is projected to be made public in a timeframe spanning from 12 to 24 months.

It's worth noting that prior to this, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had already embarked on a comparable investigation into Waymo. Despite Waymo issuing a recall for its software, the underlying problem has yet to be entirely rectified.
