Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to social media to announce that the monthly service fee for FSD (Full Self-Driving), currently set at $99, will see a hike as the system undergoes further enhancements. Musk also mentioned that users can freely use their phones or even take a nap during trips when the FSD feature is activated. Previously, Tesla had announced that starting from February 14, the option to purchase FSD outright would be discontinued, leaving only the monthly subscription service available. At present, the U.S. market offers both outright purchase and subscription payment options for FSD. Although the subscription model comes with higher costs, it significantly reduces the trial-and-error expenses for users who only need the service for a short period. Musk's vigorous promotion of the subscription model may be attributed to the compensation plan approved at Tesla's shareholder meeting, which mandates that FSD must maintain over 10 million active subscribers for three consecutive months. Furthermore, a U.S. digital insurance company has introduced exclusive auto insurance tailored for Tesla's FSD, offering a roughly 50% discount on per-mile premiums for miles driven with the FSD feature engaged. Musk underscored that FSD technology significantly enhances driving safety. It is worth noting that FSD is classified as a Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system, necessitating full driver supervision throughout the journey.
