BYD's Li Yunfei: Company Emerges as Prime Target of Malicious PR and Online Trolls

On January 22, Li Yunfei, the General Manager of the Brand and Public Relations Department at BYD Group, voiced that BYD has consistently been the primary target of malicious PR campaigns and orchestrated online trolling. The company welcomes constructive criticism and media oversight; however, when faced with black PR operations and unscrupulous media outlets that concoct false narratives, deliberately spread rumors, and launch defamatory assaults, BYD adopts a zero-tolerance stance and vows to pursue legal action relentlessly. On the same day, BYD's Legal Department announced via its official Weibo account a legal victory against automotive blogger Yao Mouqiang (known by his Douyin handle 'Daqin Junshantuan') for commercial defamation. The court ruled that Yao Mouqiang had invented and disseminated false information regarding Fangchengbao Auto, thereby tarnishing the commercial and product reputation of both BYD and the Fangchengbao brand. This act was deemed as commercial defamation, and consequently, the court mandated him to pay BYD a compensation of 2.01 million yuan.
