On January 22 (local time), Tesla CEO Elon Musk made an announcement stating that the company has officially commenced a driverless taxi service in Austin, one that operates without safety drivers. Earlier last month, Musk had already hinted at Tesla's foray into testing fully autonomous driving capabilities. Echoing this sentiment, Ashok Elluswamy, the head of Tesla's artificial intelligence division, further elaborated in a separate post. He mentioned that initially, only a 'limited number' of vehicles within the autonomous taxi fleet would be devoid of safety drivers, with this ratio set to expand progressively over time.
