Recently, Mercedes - Benz has initiated a recall for certain EQC models in China due to the potential risk of thermal runaway. Thermal runaway is a dangerous situation in batteries where an uncontrolled increase in temperature can lead to fires or explosions, so this recall was a crucial safety measure.

However, an unexpected issue has arisen post - upgrade. Many EQC owners have discovered that the available capacity of their vehicle's battery has significantly diminished. This has directly led to a notable reduction in the driving range. According to reports from numerous owners, the driving range has decreased by anywhere from 80 to 100 kilometers. Moreover, it seems that the battery is being “locked” at around the 20% mark. In the context of electric vehicles, a “locked” battery here implies that the vehicle restricts the use of the remaining battery capacity beyond this point, further limiting the driving distance.

When contacted, Mercedes - Benz customer service claimed that they had not come across relevant records regarding this specific problem. They advised owners to get in touch with their respective dealers for a thorough inspection. As of now, Mercedes - Benz has yet to offer a clear and satisfactory response to this emerging issue.
