It has been reported that Ford is currently engaged in discussions with BYD regarding potential cooperation, with plans to procure batteries for some of its hybrid vehicle models. At present, the specifics of the deal are still being negotiated, and it remains to be seen whether the two sides will ultimately reach an agreement. Neither Ford nor BYD has issued a response to these reports. Ford and BYD have had previous engagements, with Ford once viewing BYD as a formidable rival. This collaboration arrives at a pivotal moment in Ford's strategic overhaul. The company's transition to fully electric vehicles has been sluggish, with sales of its pure electric models experiencing a downturn in the U.S. market. This has led Ford to redirect its attention toward the hybrid vehicle segment. Although Ford is not currently facing a battery shortage and has recently terminated its partnership with LG Energy Solution, it is considering teaming up with BYD in order to develop lithium iron phosphate (LFP) electric vehicles. This consideration stems from the fact that the relevant intellectual property rights are held in China. Moreover, Ford has already initiated contact with CATL. At present, China's new energy vehicle sector boasts substantial advantages and is expanding its footprint on the global stage, with CATL and BYD collectively commanding over half of the global automotive power battery market share.
