On January 15, 2026, reports surfaced indicating that test pilots from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had undertaken test flights of China's self-developed C919 passenger jet in Shanghai. Two seasoned EASA test pilots executed verification flights, supported by a cadre of veteran foreign pilots stationed in China, to ascertain the C919's reliability. Earlier, in November 2025, EASA test pilots had carried out flight evaluations of the C919 at Shanghai Pudong Airport. Apart from a few minor modifications needed in the preliminary stages, EASA pronounced the aircraft's performance as commendable and secure. Presently, COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd.) is expediting the acquisition of Western safety certifications for the C919, a pivotal move for it to vie on the global stage against industry giants Boeing and Airbus.
